Bibiani Gold Stars Appoint Petros Koukouras as New Head Coach
Bibiani Gold Stars have announced the appointment of Greek tactician Petros Koukouras as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The 37-year-old succeeds Fritz Schmid, who guided the Miners to a second-place finish in the league after taking charge midway through the 2025/26 campaign.
Koukouras arrives with experience from both club and international football, having previously served as assistant coach of the South Sudan senior men’s national team.
At club level, he has managed Ugandan Premier League outfits SC Villa Jogoo and Pacific Heroes, earning recognition for his tactical approach and ability to develop competitive teams.
Bibiani Gold Stars will be hoping the Greek coach can build on the club’s recent progress and mount another serious challenge for the Ghana Premier League title.
The club won its maiden league championship during the 2024/25 season under Frimpong Manso, but struggled to maintain that momentum in the early stages of the following campaign, leading to the former coach’s departure.
Fritz Schmid was subsequently brought in to steady the ship and successfully revived the club’s title ambitions.
Under the Swiss manager, Gold Stars climbed back into contention and remained in the race until the closing weeks of the season before ultimately finishing runners-up.
The Bibiani-based side accumulated 60 points, narrowly missing out on the championship as Medeama SC clinched the title with 62 points.
Koukouras now inherits a squad that has demonstrated it can compete among the league’s elite and will be tasked with taking the club one step further.
His appointment signals Gold Stars’ determination to remain among Ghana’s top clubs as they prepare for another demanding Premier League campaign.
With pre-season preparations already underway, the new coach is expected to assess the current squad, identify areas for reinforcement and implement his football philosophy before competitive action begins.
Gold Stars will enter the new season aiming to convert last year’s near miss into another historic title-winning campaign under their new Greek manager.
