Tariq Lamptey Returns to England as QPR Complete Free Transfer for Ghana Defender
Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of Ghana international Tariq Lamptey on a free transfer, handing the full-back a fresh opportunity to revive his career ahead of the new English Championship season.
The 25-year-old arrives at Loftus Road after leaving Italian club Fiorentina by mutual consent, bringing an end to a difficult spell in Serie A that failed to live up to expectations.
Lamptey moved to Florence last summer on a three-year contract following his departure from Brighton & Hove Albion, but persistent injury problems limited his involvement. The Ghanaian defender made just a single appearance, totalling only 25 minutes on the pitch before both parties agreed to terminate the deal in May.
Despite attracting interest from several clubs during the summer transfer window, Lamptey chose QPR as the ideal destination to rebuild his career and regain regular first-team football.
The move marks a return to English football for the dynamic full-back, who first emerged through Chelsea’s academy before making his Premier League debut against Arsenal in 2019.
After a frustrating year in Italy, Lamptey now has the chance to begin a new chapter in familiar surroundings, with regular football expected to play a key role in reigniting one of Ghana’s most talented defenders.
