Razak Abalora Joins FK Zhenis Astana After Leaving Elbasani
Kazakhstani Premier League side FK Zhenis Astana have secured the services of Ghanaian goalkeeper Razak Abalora on a free transfer, following his departure from Albanian outfit AF Elbasani.
The 28-year-old shot-stopper was Elbasani’s first-choice goalkeeper throughout the 2024/25 season, making 33 appearances across all competitions. He conceded 30 goals while keeping 11 clean sheets — an impressive feat for the newly-promoted side. However, his contract was terminated at the end of the campaign due to internal disagreements.
Abalora, who has four caps for Ghana, has now opted for a fresh challenge in Kazakhstan, with Zhenis currently sitting 7th in the league standings. His addition is expected to strengthen the team’s goalkeeping department as they push for a strong finish in the top flight.
The former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper also boasts experience in European competitions, having featured for FC Sheriff Tiraspol and FC Petrocub Hincesti in Moldova, where he played in UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
