The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced a restructuring move that sees Charles Sampson step down from his role as assistant coach of the Black Queens to focus entirely on his primary position as head coach of the Black Princesses, Ghana’s U-20 women’s national team.

The change, which takes immediate effect, is part of a broader technical strategy aimed at eliminating scheduling conflicts, enhancing team performance, and fostering individual team development across the national setup.

Sampson had been serving in a dual capacity, leading the Black Princesses while also supporting the Black Queens’ technical team. However, with the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia fast approaching, the GFA believes that exclusive focus on the U-20 side will ensure better preparation and planning.

“This adjustment is in line with our commitment to technical excellence and efficient team management,” the GFA stated in an official release. “Coach Sampson’s full-time dedication to the Black Princesses is crucial as we aim to build a competitive and cohesive team for global representation.”

Under Sampson’s leadership, the Black Princesses successfully navigated the qualification stages for the World Cup, showcasing promising talent and tactical discipline. His continued stewardship is seen as vital to Ghana’s hopes of making a strong impact at the tournament.

The GFA reiterated that the decision aligns with a wider initiative to streamline coaching responsibilities across national teams, ensuring each squad benefits from focused technical direction and a stable developmental framework.

With this move, the Association expects improved coordination and effectiveness across both youth and senior women’s national teams as Ghana aims to strengthen its standing on the global football stage.
