Mohammed Kudus Nominated for Puskás Award After Stunning Solo Goal against Freiburg
Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus has been nominated for the prestigious FIFA Puskás Award, thanks to his remarkable solo effort for West Ham United in the UEFA Europa League last season.
Kudus scored the jaw-dropping goal against Freiburg during the competition’s quarter-finals. Picking up the ball deep in his own half, he dribbled past multiple opponents with ease before finishing calmly with his weaker foot. The goal not only earned widespread acclaim but was also voted West Ham United’s Goal of the Season.
He joins an impressive list of nominees for the Puskás Award, which recognizes the best goal scored worldwide in a calendar year. Fellow African players on the shortlist include Nigeria’s Paul Onuachu, Uganda’s Dennis Omedi, and Algeria’s Yassine Benzia.
Other notable nominees include Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho for his acrobatic overhead kick against Everton, Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco, and Qatar’s Hassan Al Haydos.
The winner will be announced during the FIFA Best Awards ceremony, set to take place in January 2025.
