Prince Owusu Blames Officiating for Kotoko’s Heavy Defeat to Medeama
Interim Asante Kotoko head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has attributed his side’s crushing loss to Medeama SC to controversial refereeing decisions.
Kotoko were convincingly beaten 4-0 at the TnA Stadium, with Medeama producing a dominant display highlighted by a brace from midfielder Salim Adams.
The defeat compounded a difficult run for the Porcupine Warriors, who had also suffered a setback in their previous outing against FC Samartex, further denting their campaign.
However, speaking after the match, Owusu defended his tactical approach and instead pointed to key moments involving the match officials as decisive in shaping the outcome.
“It’s the way Medeama plays; that’s why we came with that set to try to hold up in the middle. I will not say that cost us the game – the referee cost us the game. If he wouldn’t have taken that first goal,” Owusu said.
He further explained that his players were affected by what he believed were missed fouls in the build-up to Medeama’s opener.
“There were two fouls, he ignored all of them and then the goal came. Immediately that thing came, they all dropped out. When they started, we were playing them boot for boot until the situation came that the referee disallowed the foul and the guy took a shot from there to score.”
The result leaves Kotoko in sixth position on the league table, effectively ending their slim hopes of challenging for the title as the season approaches its final stretch.
