Ghana international Abu Francis has officially joined Toulouse FC from Belgian side Cercle Brugge, sealing a move that makes him the first Ghanaian to play for the French Ligue 1 club.

The 24-year-old midfielder joins Toulouse after a standout 2023/24 campaign, during which he made over 30 appearances for Cercle Brugge and earned five caps for the Black Stars.

His arrival marks a significant addition to Toulouse’s midfield, with the club aiming to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season.

“We are very pleased with Abu’s arrival in our squad. He is a very versatile midfielder, aggressive defensively while being able to dictate the tempo of the match offensively. Physically, his box-to-box profile is ideal for a championship as competitive and demanding as Ligue 1,” said the club’s technical director Viktor Behzani.

Francis, who began his football journey at Ghana’s famed Right to Dream Academy, later moved to FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark before making a switch to Belgium to play for Cercle Brugge.

Now embarking on a new chapter in France, the midfielder expressed his delight at joining Les Violets.

“I’m very happy to be here. I can’t wait to start this new challenge and join this wonderful family. I’m also looking forward to discovering the Pink City and meeting all the club’s incredible supporters!” said Francis.

The deal underlines Toulouse’s commitment to reinforcing their squad with youthful energy and dynamic talent, as they gear up for another season in France’s top-flight football.
