Bashir Hayford Open to Continuing Role at Heart of Lions Despite Difficult Season
Head coach of Heart of Lions, Bashir Hayford, has signaled his willingness to stay on at the club beyond the current campaign, even after a demanding 2025/26 season in the Ghana Premier League.
The Kpando-based side endured a turbulent run of form throughout the season, spending much of the campaign struggling near the lower end of the table and fighting to secure safety during the closing stages.
Their difficulties were further highlighted on Sunday when they suffered a heavy 5-2 defeat to newly crowned champions Medeama SC in their penultimate league fixture.
Despite the setback, Hayford was asked after the match whether he would consider stepping down or continuing in charge heading into the next season.
“That’s the question we have to ask God. I wish. If God gives me the grace, why not?” he said.
The experienced tactician, who has managed several top Ghanaian clubs over the years, believes the season has provided valuable lessons that could help reshape the team’s future direction.
“We have learned a lesson, and we will make sure we improve,” Hayford added.
Heart of Lions will now turn their attention to their final league fixture as they look to finish the season on a more positive note after a challenging campaign.
