Charles Sampson Laments Missed Opportunity After Black Princesses’ 2-2 Draw with South Africa
Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson has voiced his frustration after Ghana let a two-goal advantage slip in a 2-2 draw against South Africa in the first leg of their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana made a blistering start on Sunday, February 8, 2026, with Agnes Yeboah and Linda Owusu Ansah finding the net in the first half to put the Princesses firmly in control of the contest. The home side looked on course for a crucial victory that would have given them a strong cushion ahead of the return leg.
However, the visitors refused to fold, mounting a spirited comeback to secure a valuable away draw that has left the tie delicately poised heading into the second leg.
Sampson admitted he was unhappy with how the game ended, stressing that defensive discipline had been a key target for his team.
“I’m absolutely disappointed with the result. We wanted to keep a clean sheet against South Africa. So to lose concentration and concede two goals is disappointing,” he said after the match.
With qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland still within reach, Ghana must now regroup and deliver a composed and clinical performance in the return fixture on February 14 to keep their dreams alive.
