Ibrahim Mahama Applauds Carlos Queiroz for Rapid Black Stars Transformation
Businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has commended Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz for the remarkable progress the national team has made under his leadership ahead of Ghana’s decisive FIFA World Cup Group L clash against Croatia.
Mahama delivered the praise during a visit to the Black Stars’ training camp in Rhode Island on Thursday as part of a government delegation that met the players and technical team before the crucial encounter.
The delegation was led by Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Smith, and also included Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams and Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Addressing the squad, Mahama reserved special praise for Queiroz, applauding the Portuguese tactician for quickly building a disciplined and united team despite taking charge only a few months ago.
“I’m very proud because you came in at a shorter time, and you’ve been able to put the boys together. Wonderful performance,” Mahama told the Black Stars coach.
He also expressed admiration for the work being done behind the scenes, saying he was impressed by the entire technical setup after interacting with the coaching staff.
“I’m very happy. I thought we were just having to see players, but I’ve seen the technical team, and I’m very impressed,” he added.
Queiroz was appointed Ghana head coach in April following the departure of Otto Addo and has overseen an encouraging start to the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign.
Under his guidance, Ghana opened the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Panama before earning a hard-fought goalless draw against England, leaving the four-time African champions in a strong position heading into their final group-stage fixture.
The Black Stars now face Croatia knowing that victory would guarantee qualification to the Round of 32 and mark Ghana’s return to the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since 2010.
With confidence growing both within the squad and among supporters, Mahama’s endorsement reflects the optimism surrounding the team’s progress as they prepare for one of their most important matches of the tournament.
