President of Young Apostles FC, Samuel Anim Addo, has dismissed the club’s official statement distancing itself from remarks he made about referee Maxwell Hanson.

Anim Addo had described Hanson as the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) “man for dirty works” following his performance in Accra Lions’ controversial 1-0 loss to Dreams FC. He further alleged that the GFA had threatened to relegate Young Apostles in retaliation for his criticisms of officiating in the Ghana Premier League.

In response, Young Apostles issued a statement disassociating themselves from Anim Addo’s comments.

“Young Apostles FC wishes to clarify that a recent statement made by Mr. Samuel Anim Addo (Club Official/Member) on social media directed to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) does not reflect the views or opinions of our club. We strongly disassociate ourselves from these comments and any sentiments expressed therein,” the statement read.

Speaking on  JoyNews, Anim Addo called on football fans to disregard the club’s statement, claiming it was unauthorized and lacked legitimacy.

“That’s another unfortunate situation. It’s not from the club; I am a co-owner of the club. Whoever wrote that letter has no authority over me. Disregard that statement,” Anim Addo said.

He accused the club’s general manager of acting unilaterally.

“The person who sanctioned that letter is not the CEO but a general manager, and he does not have authority beyond me. Nobody authorized him to write that letter, but I know where all this is coming from. Don’t worry,” he added.
