The Black Queens of Ghana continued their preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a gritty 1-0 victory over Senegal in an international friendly on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

In a fiercely contested encounter, Ghana struck early through midfielder Evelyn Badu, who calmly converted a cross from the left flank in the 24th minute to give the visitors a deserved lead.

The goal proved to be the match-winner as the Black Queens held firm for the remainder of the game.

Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side showed great resilience, particularly after being reduced to ten players just past the hour mark. Midfielder Anasthesia Achiaa was shown a second yellow card in the 63rd minute, forcing Ghana to play the final 27 minutes a player short.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Black Queens stayed composed and organized defensively, frustrating their Senegalese opponents and maintaining their narrow advantage until the final whistle.

The win forms part of Ghana’s ongoing nine-day training tour in Senegal, which includes two scheduled friendly matches against the Teranga Lionesses. The second and final game of the tour is set to take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
