Ghana Confirmed as Host of 2027 U-20 AFCON, Kurt Okraku Announces
Ghana has secured the rights to host the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, marking a major development for the country’s football calendar, according to Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku.
The announcement was made on Sunday, April 26, 2026, through an official message shared by the GFA chief, confirming that the West African nation will stage the continental youth tournament for the first time in nearly three decades.
“Ghana will be hosting the tournament,” Okraku revealed, signaling the beginning of preparations toward delivering a successful competition.

The upcoming edition will represent a return to familiar territory for Ghana, which last hosted the tournament in 1999 when it was known as the African Youth Championship.
The confirmation of hosting rights is expected to trigger extensive planning across infrastructure, logistics, and organization, as Ghana aims to deliver a memorable event while reinforcing its reputation as a leading football nation on the continent.
With the spotlight now turning toward 2027, the focus shifts to preparation and execution, as Ghana positions itself to welcome Africa’s top young talents on home soil once again.
