Ghana have officially secured a place in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup even before taking to the field for their final Group L fixture against Croatia, after results elsewhere guaranteed their progression to the knockout stage.

The Black Stars become one of the first nations to qualify under FIFA’s expanded 48-team tournament, joining Egypt, England, Portugal and Paraguay in booking an early place in the next round.

Carlos Queiroz’s men collected four points from their opening two matches, edging Panama 1-0 before producing an impressive defensive display to earn a goalless draw against England. Those results have now proved enough to ensure qualification regardless of Saturday’s outcome against Croatia.

Confirmation came after results in Group H meant that four points would be sufficient to guarantee advancement under the competition’s qualification rules.

The revamped World Cup format sees the top two teams from each of the 12 groups progress automatically to the Round of 32, alongside the eight highest-ranked third-placed teams, creating scenarios where teams can secure qualification before completing all three group matches.

Although Ghana’s place in the knockout rounds is already assured, there is still plenty at stake against Croatia.

The Black Stars can strengthen their position by finishing top of Group L with a victory, a result that could hand them a more favourable draw in the Round of 32. A draw or defeat would still leave Ghana in contention to finish second, depending on the outcome of the other group fixture.

The qualification marks a welcome return to the World Cup knockout stage after Ghana’s group-stage exit at the previous edition of the tournament.

Queiroz’s side have impressed with their discipline and resilience throughout the competition. Caleb Yirenkyi’s dramatic late winner against Panama provided the perfect start before another organised display against England reinforced confidence within the squad.

The expected availability of midfielder Thomas Partey, who missed the opening game because of travel documentation issues, offers Ghana an additional boost as preparations continue for the Croatia encounter.

Elsewhere, Paraguay have also confirmed their place in the knockout rounds and are set to face Germany, while Ghana’s Round of 32 opponents will only be confirmed after the conclusion of the final round of group-stage matches.

With qualification already in the bag, the Black Stars will now aim to finish the group stage strongly, preserve their unbeaten record and carry valuable momentum into the knockout phase.
