GFA Presidential aspirant, George Afriyie says Ghana Football is not run well and currently is on a decline pattern under the stewardship of Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.

The bankroller of Susubiribi SC, a division one league club has officially filed his nomination to challenge Kurt Okraku for the presidential elections in the upcoming GFA elections. He completed his first step to unseat Kurt Okraku for the GFA leadership role on Friday, August 11 2023 at the GFA Secretariat.

George picked his forms few hours after Kurt Okraku had filed his.

He told reporters after filing his nomination to run for the GFA seat after losing four years ago to Kurt Okraku that, he is contest for the seat because his ambition is to grow Ghana football to the highest level, knowing the game is declining under the watch of Kurt Okraku.

“Well, this is just the first step. A first step to rescue our football. If the clubs are satisfied with our football then, I don’t need to contest” If the sporting public, if Ghanaians, if football club owners, people who spent their daily life and money to run football, if they’re satisfied with the position of our football currently, then me George Afriyie I don’t need to be the President of the GFA”

“The truth is that, for the past 4-years our football is divided, the truth is that our football is declined. For the first time in the history of our country, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko opened free gate, yet it was empty.

“If Ghanaians think, the performance of our national team in recent times is an improvement of four-years ago, then I don’t need to contest. If Ghanaians are satisfied with our leagues then I, George Afriyie don’t need to contest.

“If there is transpiracy in the administration of football, I don’t need to contest.

“You’re being made to believe that COVID strike, now football has turned to political politicians. If you’re a football person you and I, will agree that the budget for a year for Premier division, division one league and others is a minimum of UDS 100 but do we see it affecting the leagues”? George quizzed.

Elections is slated for September 27 in Tamale.

Currently, George Afriyie and Kurt Okraku are the only two to officially confirm their intentions to run for the presidential seat of the GFA.
