Youngster Ernest Nuamah is close to becoming the fifth Ghanaian player to wear Olympique Lyon jersey in the history of the French club.

The 2003 born striker for Nordsjælland will be new record signing for the French Ligue I club. He has completed medical tests as new Olympique Lyon player.

His deal is worth €30million, €25m fixed fee plus €5m add-ons.

Loan with obligation to buy deal and contract until June 2028.

Should Ernest Nuamah, put pen to paper he will become the fifth Ghanaian player to play for Lyon after Abedi Ayew Pele, John Mensah, Michael Essien and Elisha Owusu.



The last time, Lyon acquired the services of a Ghanaian player was in 2017. Elisha Owusu rose through the youth team of Lyon before seeking for challenge elsewhere in 2017.

However, the first Ghanaian to arrive in the club was Abedi Pele in the early 1990’s before, Michael Essien.

The ‘Bison’ joined Lyon in the early 2000’s and by far the longest serving Ghanaian player who won four titles which included the league title and trophée des champions.

John Mensah who is popularly known as ‘Rock of Gibraltar’ joined Lyon in 2008 and left in 2012.

Nuamah becoming the fifth Ghanaian talent to join the side.
