Mahala Football Academy confirm participation in Division One League Play-Off

Ghana’s third-tier club, Mahala Football Academy have confirmed their participation in the upcoming Division One League Play-Off arranged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

It’s become necessary for a playoff to the Country’s Division One League by Division Two League teams, after former Ghana Premier League side West African Football Academy (WAFA) withdrawn from the upcoming 2023-24 Division One League season.

WAFA’s decision descends to move from Sogakope to Gomoa Fetteh, where they previously traded during their stay in the Division One League until 2014, after securing qualification to the top-flight moved to Sogakope. Upon suffering relegation, the side ought to return to their root thus Zone Two of Division One League but that seems a hell of time since their infrastructure and camp is located in Sogakope.

Therefore, a specific reason to withdraw from Division One having played just a season.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), has therefore considered a playoff for a replacement of WAFA in Division One League by losing finalist of the 2022-23 Regional Middle league across the Central Region, Ashanti Region and Western Region.

Mahala Football Academy who was a losing finalist in Ashanti Region, will come up against Western Region losing finalist Team Move FC and Young Red Bull FC of Central Region.

Mahala Football Academy lost 2-0 to PAC Academy in the final as they failed to grab the slot to Division One League.

“Management has written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), on our acceptance as on Wednesday August 9, 2023 to participate in the play offs”, a member of the club confirmed to Nkrataasem.com

Meanwhile, the GFA have yet to announce date and venue for the play off.
