Another DISGRACE has befallen Ghana Football, after the organisers of the 2023 WAFU Zone B U-20 men’s Cup of Nations dispatched two of Ghana’s referees from participating in the tournament.

The two Class one Ghanaian referees, Selorm Bless and Theophilus Akugre have both been excluded from officiating the Cup of Nations ongoing in the Ivory Coast.

The duo arrived in the Francophone country on Friday, July 7, 2023 for the Cup of Nations with high expectations of partaking in the tournament but received a letter of their inability to join the team. They were disqualified from the tournament, since they are not qualified for the assignment and are class one referees.

In other words, WAFU excluded them for not holding FIFA batches, since they needed FIFA referees for the tournament.

Referee Selorm Yao Bless and Theophilus Akugre were offered to officiate the WAFU Zone B U-20 opening ceremony game between host nation, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso but was denied.

Despite, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) having in abundance FIFA referees like Papala Patrick, Juliet Appiah, Appiah Joyce Obeng, Charles Bulu, Abdul Latif Adaari, Mohammed Tijani among others, none were appointed to go for the tournament.
