Nana Adarkwa demands focus as Black Maidens target victory in Liberia
Black Maidens head coach Nana Adarkwa has made it clear that his team has travelled to Liberia with one objective — securing victory in their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier.
The Ghanaian side will take on Liberia at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon, carrying a strong sense of confidence after what the technical team describes as productive preparations ahead of the crucial encounter.
Adarkwa believes the conditions in Liberia will offer no surprises to his players, noting that the weather and playing surface are similar to what they are accustomed to back home. As a result, he expects his team to settle quickly and focus entirely on the task at hand.
Speaking before the match, the coach expressed satisfaction with the attitude and performance of his squad since arriving in Liberia.
“Since our arrival everything is ok but we are going to do our possible best. So far, so good our training session is very good. The girls are doing very well. We hope going into the game we are going to win nothing else,” he told GFA Communications.
Adarkwa also dismissed any suggestion that the Black Maidens could underestimate their opponents, stressing that the team remains fully concentrated on achieving a positive result.
“When you check Liberia and Ghana we are the same in terms of pitch the weather everything is okay here because if you go to Ghana it is the same.
“So we are playing like we are in Ghana we are here for win and since our training we have done a lot with the girls and hopefully we are going to win the game.”
The coach revealed that adjustments have been made to the squad as part of efforts to improve balance and maintain competition for places within the team.
“And we have made changes in the team. We know many can play in the team, so we make changes so that our game will be smooth. We want to win our matches. We are going for a win, no complacency.”
The Black Maidens will be aiming to take a significant step toward qualification when they face Liberia, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 pm on Saturday.
