Kurt Okraku has announced that Ghana’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be unveiled on June 1 following the Black Stars’ defeat to Mexico in an international friendly in Puebla.

The Ghana Football Association president shared the update on his official Facebook page shortly after the Black Stars suffered a 2-0 loss in their latest preparatory match ahead of the tournament in North America.

According to Okraku, the match achieved its intended purpose despite the disappointing result, particularly by giving opportunities to younger and fringe players within the national setup.

“The World Cup squad announcement is scheduled for June 1st. Let’s maintain our collective support for our stars!!” he wrote.

He explained that the technical team used the encounter to assess several U-23 players as well as members of the squad who have struggled for consistent playing time.

“Objective accomplished!” Okraku posted.

“This event has provided significant stage exposure for the majority of our U-23 players, who will soon assemble for the Olympic qualifiers, as well as other players who had limited playing time.”

The Black Stars were led by assistant coach Desmond Ofei during the match following the absence of head coach Carlos Queiroz due to personal reasons.

Mexico took control early in the contest and secured victory through goals from Brian Gutierrez and Guillermo Martinez.

The fixture formed part of Ghana’s preparations for the World Cup, where the Black Stars will compete in Group L against England, Croatia and Panama.
