Kim Björkegren Unveils Strong 24-Woman Squad for WAFCON Qualifiers Against Egypt
Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has announced a formidable 24-player roster for Ghana’s upcoming 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying double-header against Egypt.
The Swedish tactician’s selection blends experience with youthful dynamism as the Queens aim to secure a place at next year’s continental championship in Morocco.
Between the posts, Cynthia Fiindib Konlan and Afi Amenyaku headline the goalkeeping department, both having established themselves as reliable shot-stoppers for the national team.
Captain Portia Boakye leads a sturdy defensive unit that includes Comfort Yeboah and Susan Ama Duah — players known for their consistency, composure, and leadership at the back.
In midfield, Björkegren has opted for a rich mix of technical skill and work rate. Grace Asantewaa, Jennifer Cudjoe, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, Evelyn Badu, and Stella Nyamekye will anchor the middle of the park, combining creativity with defensive discipline. Exciting youngsters Helen Alormenu and Sharon Simpson, both former Black Princesses stars, have also earned their first senior call-ups, signaling the coach’s intent to refresh the squad with emerging talent.

Up front, the team’s attacking threat will be spearheaded by seasoned forwards Alice Kusi, Doris Boaduwaa, Princella Adubea, and Mary Amponsah, who are expected to provide the goals needed to power Ghana’s qualification hopes.
The squad also features consistent performers such as Ernestina Abambila, Josephine Bonsu, Nina Norshie, Anasthesia Achiaa, and Louisa Aniwaa — all of whom have been integral to the team’s recent revival and growing confidence in international competitions.
Ghana will host Egypt in the first leg before traveling for the return fixture, as Björkegren’s charges seek to book a spot at the 2026 WAFCON and continue their journey toward reclaiming continental glory.
