The Ghana Football Association has confirmed the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars, entrusting the experienced tactician with guiding Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The decision, taken in collaboration with key stakeholders, sees the former Real Madrid and Manchester United coach step into the role with immediate effect as preparations intensify for the global tournament set to be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Queiroz arrives with an impressive résumé on the international stage. He led South Africa to qualification for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, guided Portugal to the knockout rounds in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions of the competition.

His coaching journey has also taken him through national team roles with Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, adding to a wealth of experience that Ghana will hope proves decisive on football’s biggest stage.

The veteran coach is expected to quickly get to work as he begins shaping the team ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on June 11, 2026.

Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before taking on England and Croatia in what promises to be a challenging Group L schedule.

With Queiroz now at the helm, attention turns to how the Black Stars will harness his experience as they aim to make a strong impact at the World Cup.
