Hearts of Oak Edge Heart of Lions to Extend Unbeaten Run
Hearts of Oak secured a vital 1-0 victory over Heart of Lions in the Ghana Premier League on Friday night, extending their unbeaten streak to six matches.
A second-half penalty, expertly dispatched by Mawuli Wayo, proved to be the difference as the Phobians clinched all three points at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Head coach Aboubakar Ouattara handed a starting debut to new signing Seth Osei, while Kwesi Asmah and Abdul Aziz Adam also made their first appearances after coming on as second-half substitutes.
The first half saw Hearts of Oak carve out the better scoring opportunities, although possession remained evenly balanced between the two sides.
In the 29th minute, Hamza Issah squandered a golden opportunity to put Hearts ahead, failing to convert a clear-cut chance.
However, the breakthrough came early in the second half when Hearts were awarded a penalty. Mawuli Wayo stepped up and confidently slotted home, marking his fifth goal of the season.
With this victory, Hearts of Oak have climbed to fourth place on the league table, level on points with Heart of Lions, and just one point behind leaders Asante Kotoko SC.
For Heart of Lions, the defeat adds to their struggles in recent matches. They have now won only one of their last four games, suffering three defeats in the process.
