Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has disclosed that newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is currently operating on a salary below $100,000, amid ongoing negotiations over his full contract.

The Portuguese tactician, who recently assumed duty as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is yet to finalise a comprehensive agreement with authorities, prompting a temporary arrangement.

Clarifying the situation, Adams dismissed widely circulated figures suggesting the coach is earning up to $100,000.

“Because we haven’t finalised and then signed a full contract, we can’t say it now, but it is not up to $100,000. The $100,000 is not true,” he said.

Queiroz was appointed on a short-term deal to lead the Black Stars into the global tournament, replacing Otto Addo after a series of underwhelming results.

Despite the pending contractual details, the experienced coach has already begun work, focusing on player assessments and preparations ahead of the World Cup.

The Minister’s comments come amid heightened public scrutiny over financial commitments within the national team setup, with assurances that full details of the agreement will be made public once negotiations are concluded.

As preparations intensify, Queiroz is expected to quickly establish his tactical direction and assemble a competitive squad capable of delivering a strong performance on football’s biggest stage.
