Otto Addo Shrugs Off Sack Talk; Backs Black Stars to Stay on Course
Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has dismissed criticism of his record and insists he is not worried about the possibility of losing his job ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali in Accra.
Addo’s return for a second spell in charge has produced mixed results on paper. In 15 games, Ghana have managed five wins, five draws, and five defeats, scoring 27 goals while conceding 18. During that period, the team has kept only four clean sheets, giving him a win rate of 33.3%.
Despite those numbers, the 49-year-old believes the statistics do not tell the full story and maintains that Ghana are still firmly on track in their qualification campaign.
“These statistics of my wins and losses are of no use. I’m not afraid of anything, not even getting sacked. We are still on top of Group I, so nothing has changed,” Addo told reporters.
Looking ahead to the Mali fixture, the Ghana coach underlined that every opponent in the group will be approached with the same seriousness, warning against any form of complacency.
“Game by game, there will be no underrating of any team,” he added.
Monday’s showdown at the Accra Sports Stadium is shaping up to be one of the defining encounters of Group I, with both Ghana and Mali chasing valuable points to strengthen their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Addo’s defiant stance underscores his determination to focus on results on the pitch rather than external criticism, as the Black Stars aim to consolidate their position at the top of the group.
