GFA Hands Prosper Nartey Ogum Two-Year Black Starlets Deal
The Ghana Football Association has confirmed Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum as head coach of the Black Starlets on a two-year contract, underlining its plan to build long-term stability at the youth level.
Ogum, who took over from Frimpong Manso, has already made a strong impression by steering the U-17 side to qualification for the 2026 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, set for April. The new deal is expected to give him the continuity and institutional backing needed to shape a competitive generation of young players.
Speaking after signing his contract, Ogum outlined his ambitions for the team and expressed appreciation for the confidence shown in him.
“I am grateful to the Ghana Football Association for the trust and stability this contract provides. Our focus is clear, to build a technically sound, tactically disciplined and mentally strong team that can compete at the highest level in Africa. We are not just preparing for a tournament, we are building a foundation for the future of Ghana football,” he told GFA Communications.
In addition to his national team duties, Ogum also serves as the GFA’s Head of Education, a role that highlights his commitment to structured player development and coaching education pathways.
The 2022 Ghana Premier League-winning coach with Asante Kotoko brings a wealth of experience to the Starlets setup, having also guided WAFA to a second-place league finish and served at Ebusua Dwarfs and with the Black Galaxies technical team.
With preparations already in full swing for the continental tournament, Ogum and his technical team are intensifying efforts to assemble a disciplined and competitive squad for Ghana’s return to the U-17 AFCON stage. The GFA has reiterated its commitment to providing full technical and logistical support as it ushers in what it describes as a new era of stability and strategic planning in youth football.
