Quiet weekend for Black Stars players called up for AFCON qualifiers

The Black Stars of Ghana will lock horns with Angola and Niger for the wrap of the qualifiers for AFCON 2025. Nkrataasem takes a look at how the players called up for the clashes fared over the weekend for their respective clubs.

GOALKEEPERS

Lawrence Ati Zigi put in a strong performance for St. Gallen, contributing to their 2-1 victory over Grasshoppers in the Swiss Super League.

Abdul Manaf Nurudeen also featured 90 minutes for KAS Eupen in their match against Patro Eisden.

Joseph Wollacott, however, was not included in Crawley Town’s squad for their game against Huddersfield.

DEFENDERS

Gideon Mensah was part of Auxerre’s 3-1 win over Marseille in French Ligue 1 on Friday.

Alexander Djiku came on as a substitute in the 12th minute for Fernabache as they beat Sivaspoor 4-0. He was however substituted off in the 88th minute.

Tariq Lamptey was absent from Brighton’s match-day squad.

Jonas Adjetey came off the bench to play 21 minutes in Basel’s 2-1 win over Yverdon in the Swiss Super League on Saturday.

Nathaniel Adjei did not feature for Lorient.

Isaac Afful played the entire game for FC Samartex in their 1-0 triumph over Legon Cities.

Razak Simpson led Nations FC to beat Nsoatreman 3-0.

MIDFIELDERS

Elisha Owusu contributed to Auxerre’s 3-1 victory over Marseille in French Ligue 1 on Friday.

Abu Francis played 25 minutes for Cercle Brugge in their 5-0 loss to Anderlecht.

Emmanuel Antwi featured in Asante Kotoko’s narrow 1-0 loss to Bechem United.

Ibrahim Sulemana was an unused substitute in Atalanta’s 2-1 win over Udinese in Serie A.

Michael Baidoo was left out of Elfsborg’s squad for their game against Varnamo.

Mohammed Kudus was absent from West Ham’s match against Everton due to suspension.

Ibrahim Osman missed Feyenoord’s game against Almere City on Sunday due to injury.

FORWARDS

Ernest Nuamah came off the bench to play 26 minutes in Olympique Lyon’s 1-0 win over St. Etienne.

Antoine Semenyo completed the full 90 minutes for Bournemouth in their 3-2 defeat to Brentford.

Jordan Ayew featured in Leicester’s 3-0 loss to Manchester United.

Inaki Williams was absent for Athletic Bilbao due to injury.

Fatawu Issahaku also took part in Leicester City’s 3-0 loss to Manchester United.

Joseph Paintsil did not play over the weekend.
