Joseph Anang Earns Goalkeeper of the Year Nomination After Exceptional Season in Ireland
Ghanaian shot-stopper Joseph Anang has been named among the final contenders for the Soccer Writers Ireland (SWI) League of Ireland Goalkeeper of the Year Award, capping off a brilliant season with St. Patrick’s Athletic.
The 24-year-old delivered one of the finest campaigns by a goalkeeper in the 2025 League of Ireland Premier Division, emerging as the league’s clean-sheet leader while anchoring the tightest defence of the season. His sharp reactions, assured presence, and command of his area were key to St. Pat’s strong performances across the campaign.
Anang featured in 36 league games, conceding just 32 goals and registering an impressive 18 clean sheets—a record that placed him firmly among the division’s elite performers.
His displays have drawn widespread admiration both domestically and internationally, further solidifying his growing reputation within the Ghana national team after making his senior debut in last week’s friendly against Japan.
Anang will go head-to-head with Shamrock Rovers’ Ed McGinty and Derry City’s Brian Maher for the coveted award. The winners of the 2025 SWI Awards will be revealed on Friday, December 5, where the Ghanaian goalkeeper will hope to add a major individual honour to his standout year.
