Didi Dramani Impressed by Black Stars Camp Mood Ahead of World Cup
Former Hearts of Oak head coach Didi Dramani has expressed optimism about Ghana’s prospects at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, pointing to the positive atmosphere within the Black Stars camp as a key indicator ahead of the tournament.
The senior national team is currently in the United States putting the finishing touches to its preparations for the global showpiece, where Ghana will compete in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Having monitored developments around the team, Dramani believes the environment within the camp reflects a squad fully focused on the task ahead and ready to embrace the challenge of competing on football’s biggest stage.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, the experienced Ghanaian coach praised the spirit among the players and expressed confidence in the leadership of head coach Carlos Queiroz.
“The energy in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup is marvellous, and Carlos Queiroz will do his best to organise the team, stay compact defensively, and avoid conceding goals in the tournament,” he said.
Queiroz, who took charge earlier this year, has been working to implement his ideas and tactical philosophy ahead of the competition. The Portuguese tactician oversaw his first match as Black Stars coach in the recent 1-1 draw against Wales, a result that provided encouraging signs as preparations continue.
The team has since relocated its training activities to the facilities of D.C. United after concerns were raised about privacy at its previous base. The move is expected to provide a more secure and focused environment for the final stages of preparation.
Ghana will begin its World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before facing England six days later at Gillette Stadium. The Black Stars will then conclude their group-stage fixtures with a clash against Croatia on June 27.
The four-time African champions are aiming to reach the knockout rounds for the first time since their memorable quarter-final run at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
After disappointing group-stage exits in both 2014 and 2022, expectations are high for Ghana to make a stronger impact this time around.
With confidence growing within the camp and experienced voices such as Dramani backing the team’s direction, the Black Stars will be hoping to translate their positive preparation into success when the tournament gets underway.
