Former Ghana head coach Otto Addo has embarked on a new chapter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after officially joining FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG), where he will serve as the only African member of the distinguished panel.

Addo’s appointment places him among an elite group of football experts responsible for analysing the tournament’s tactical developments, coaching strategies and standout performances across the competition.

The FIFA Technical Study Group plays a significant role throughout the World Cup, monitoring matches and producing in-depth technical assessments that help shape the understanding and future development of the game worldwide. The panel also contributes to the selection process for several of FIFA’s major individual awards at the tournament.

The former Black Stars boss will work alongside a host of respected figures from the global football community, including former United States international Tobin Heath, Germany’s Jürgen Klinsmann, Wales coach Jayne Ludlow, Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill, Brazil legend Gilberto Silva, Denmark’s Jon Dahl Tomasson, Costa Rica icon Paulo Wanchope, Dutch great Aron Winter and former Argentina defender Pablo Zabaleta.

The group operates under the leadership of FIFA Senior Football Expert Pascal Zuberbühler and Head of Football Performance Insights Tom Gardner. Their work is supported by a network of analysts, data scientists, data engineers and performance specialists based at operational centres in Miami, Dallas and Manchester.

Addo’s inclusion reflects FIFA’s confidence in his football knowledge and analytical capabilities, earned through years of coaching experience at both club and international levels.

His appointment comes shortly after the end of his tenure as Ghana head coach. While his final months in charge were marked by disappointing friendly results against Austria and Germany, Addo successfully guided the Black Stars to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Now operating in a different capacity at the tournament, the former Ghana international will be involved in examining the tactical trends and innovations that emerge as nations battle for football’s biggest prize.
