Accra High Court Orders Hearts of Oak to Pay Former Official GHS 108,637
The Accra High Court has ruled in favor of Charles Kwarteng, the former Commercial Affairs Manager of Hearts of Oak, directing the club to pay him GHS 108,637 for wrongful dismissal and unpaid entitlements.
Presiding judge Mrs. Anna Akosua Appiah Gottfried Anaafi Gyasi ruled that Kwarteng had a valid employment contract with the club, dismissing Hearts of Oak’s arguments to the contrary.
The court found that the Ghana Premier League giants had failed to fulfill multiple contractual obligations, including:
- Non-payment of August 2021 salary
- Failure to pay Tier 2 pension contributions for 24 months
- Unpaid fuel allowances for 17 months
- Lack of a designated club vehicle, forcing Kwarteng to use his private car for official duties
As part of the ruling, Hearts of Oak has been ordered to pay Kwarteng the following:
- GHS 10,987 – Full salary for August 2021
- GHS 24,650 – Unpaid fuel allowance over 17 months
- GHS 50,000 – Compensation for using his private vehicle for official work
- Full Tier 2 pension contributions for the entire 24-month period he worked at the club
- GHS 20,000 – Legal costs awarded to Kwarteng
This verdict marks the conclusion of Kwarteng’s legal battle against Hearts of Oak, ensuring he receives the compensation owed to him.
