Ghana U20 head coach Desmond Ofei has underlined the importance of his side’s upcoming Group A clash against Benin in the ongoing WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship, describing it as a must-win encounter to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

The Black Satellites, who drew 1-1 with Nigeria in their tournament opener, will need at least a draw to progress to the knockout stage. Misbau Aziz gave Ghana the lead in that game, but a late equaliser from Nigeria denied them all three points.

Benin, on the other hand, suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Nigeria in their opening fixture and find themselves at the bottom of the group. The Young Cheetahs now face an uphill task, needing a win to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Speaking ahead of the decisive encounter, Coach Desmond Ofei stressed the need for full concentration and urgency, despite Benin’s earlier setback.

“It’s a very important game for us, we want to qualify so we have to win. Despite the heavy defeat against Nigeria, we know they are still a good side so we have to be sharp, we have to be hungry and shouldn’t give anything away so we will have to show on the day that we’re the better side to get the three points,” he stated.

The high-stakes fixture is scheduled to kick off at 15:00 GMT on Tuesday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. A positive result will guarantee the Black Satellites a place in the last four as they seek to reclaim regional glory.
