Black Starlets Ready to Make Ghana Proud at WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship – Coach Ogum
Black Starlets head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to deliver at the upcoming 2025 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship in Ivory Coast.
The squad concluded their preparations in Accra on Sunday and will travel to Yamoussoukro for the tournament, which kicks off on Saturday, September 20.
The former Asante Kotoko boss commended the level of work done in camp and praised the players’ dedication throughout the buildup.
“We have had a very productive camp, and the players have shown great commitment,” Ogum told the Ghana FA website.
He added: “We are going to Côte d’Ivoire, determined to compete and make Ghanaians proud.”
Ghana has been drawn in Group A, where they will begin their campaign against Togo on Saturday, September 20, at 18:00 GMT. The Starlets will then face hosts Ivory Coast on Tuesday, September 23, before wrapping up the group stage against Niger on Friday, September 26, at 15:00 GMT. All group matches are scheduled to take place at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.
The WAFU Zone B Championship doubles as the qualification pathway for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations. The top-performing teams will book their place at the continental competition.
With Ghana’s illustrious record as two-time FIFA U-17 World Cup winners, the Starlets will be eager to re-establish their dominance in youth football, beginning with a strong showing in Ivory Coast.
