Joseph Paul Amoah Targets Steady Progress After Booking 100m Semi-Final Spot
Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah says his focus remains on taking the competition one step at a time after successfully advancing to the semi-finals of the men’s 100m event at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships.
Competing at the University of Ghana Stadium on Tuesday evening, Amoah delivered a composed performance in his opening heat to secure qualification for the next stage of the competition.
The experienced Ghanaian sprinter finished second in Heat 5 behind Emmanuel Eseme to automatically progress to the semi-finals alongside fellow Ghanaians Edwin Gadayi and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu.
Speaking after the race, Amoah stressed the importance of staying calm and approaching the championship progressively rather than looking too far ahead.
“We want to take it heat by heat. This was our first round, so I just want to make the top two,” he said.
The Ghanaian athlete is among the country’s leading contenders in the sprint events as supporters hope for a strong performance on home soil.
With qualification secured, Amoah will now turn his attention to the semi-final race later in the evening as he chases a place in the final and a possible medal opportunity for Ghana.
