Carlos Queiroz Prioritises Results Over Style in Black Stars Vision
New Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has dismissed debates over playing style, insisting his primary objective with Ghana is simple—winning matches.
Speaking during his first media engagement following his unveiling at the Alisa Hotel, the Portuguese tactician addressed perceptions surrounding his tactical identity, often labelled as defensive.
“I am a winning coach. I don’t understand that thing of defend or attack,” Queiroz said.
He explained that his philosophy revolves around collective effort both with and without the ball.
“When we don’t have the ball, we have to fight together, sacrifice, suffer to recover the ball as fast as possible in order to build up opportunities and score,” he added.
Queiroz, who has signed a four-month deal to lead Ghana into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasised that results remain the ultimate measure of success in football.
“At the end, in Ghana, and the rest of the world, there is only one reason in football, to win,” he stressed.
The experienced coach is expected to begin work immediately, with his first assignment set for May 2 against Wales national football team in Cardiff as part of Ghana’s pre-World Cup preparations.
Queiroz brings continental experience to the role as he looks to shape a competitive Black Stars side for the global stage.
