Black Stars Arrive in Toronto Ahead of Crucial World Cup Opener Against Panama
The Black Stars have arrived in Toronto as they enter the final phase of preparations for their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana’s national team landed in the Canadian city on Monday after concluding a training camp in Rhode Island, where the squad has been based since leaving Wales following their pre-tournament friendly earlier this month.
The move to Toronto signals the beginning of match week preparations, with head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical team shifting their attention fully to Wednesday’s Group L encounter against Panama.
During their stay in the United States, the Black Stars focused on tactical drills, fitness work and team cohesion as Queiroz continued to fine-tune his plans for the tournament. The camp also provided an opportunity for players to adapt to conditions ahead of the competition.
Encouragingly for Ghana, all 26 members of the squad have reportedly participated fully in training, leaving the coaching staff with a complete group to choose from for the tournament opener.
The four-time African champions are scheduled to hold their official pre-match training session at BMO Field on Tuesday evening, where the team will get a final feel of the venue before taking to the pitch for their opening fixture.
The clash against Panama will mark the first senior international meeting between the two nations and could prove pivotal in determining the early standings in a competitive Group L.
Following the Panama encounter, Ghana will turn their attention to a highly anticipated showdown with England before concluding the group stage against Croatia.
The Black Stars head into the tournament determined to reach the knockout rounds for the first time since the memorable 2010 campaign in South Africa. After group-stage exits in both 2014 and 2022, Ghana will be hoping their latest World Cup journey begins on a positive note in Toronto.
