Kudus scores for West Ham in defeat to Brighton
Ghanaian star Mohammed Kudus was on the scoresheet but couldn’t prevent West Ham United from suffering a dramatic 3-2 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion in an entertaining Premier League clash at the American Express Stadium.
Brighton opened the scoring in stunning fashion when Yasin Ayari unleashed a sensational 30-yard strike early in the match to give the hosts the advantage. However, Kudus drew West Ham level shortly after halftime, calmly slotting home after being teed up by Jarrod Bowen.
The Black Stars midfielder was a constant threat throughout the afternoon, completing a game-high seven successful dribbles. Nevertheless, he also found himself under heavy pressure, losing a match-high 11 duels as Brighton’s aggressive pressing game made life difficult.

West Ham thought they had snatched victory when Tomas Soucek rose highest to head them into a 2-1 lead in the 83rd minute. But Brighton had other plans. Substitute Kaoru Mitoma equalized in the 89th minute, finishing off a slick passing move, before Carlos Baleba completed the comeback with a thumping strike deep into stoppage time.
It was a heartbreaking finish for West Ham, who have struggled historically against Brighton, managing just three wins in their last 18 meetings.
Kudus, who has now registered four Premier League goals this season, played the full 90 minutes and was one of West Ham’s standout performers despite the defeat.
