Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori says his immediate priority is maintaining top form for AmaZulu FC as he works toward earning a return to the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In an interview with iDiski Times, the experienced shot-stopper revealed that while representing Ghana at the World Cup remains his ultimate ambition, he understands that consistent club performances are key to catching the attention of the national team selectors.

“I’m working hard and focusing on my team at the moment. That’s what you need to do if you want to be there [at the World Cup],” Ofori stated.

The former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, who has been an influential figure in the South African Premier League, also clarified that he has not been in recent contact with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo but emphasized there is mutual respect between them.

“Recently, no. I haven’t spoken to the coach. But before, he used to call and check up on his players. He’s a good man. He hasn’t abandoned anyone; he just focuses more on those who are actively playing, especially since the qualifiers were so intense,” Ofori explained.

The 31-year-old remains optimistic about his chances of returning to the national team setup, insisting that his focus on club football will ultimately pave the way.

For now, Ofori’s attention is firmly on helping AmaZulu climb the South African Premier League standings — a challenge he believes will not only benefit his team but also reinforce his credentials for a Black Stars comeback.
