Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has received a brand-new car from Alhaji Seidu Agongo, CEO of Class Media Group, in recognition of his outstanding performances and the public attention sparked by a viral video earlier this year.

The presentation, which took place on Wednesday at the club’s commercial center, followed widespread social media attention after Asare was captured commuting in the front seat of a commercial ‘trotro’ shortly after making his debut for the Black Stars in March.

The video drew both praise and concern, prompting calls for better treatment and support for local footballers.

Asare, visibly moved by the gesture, expressed his appreciation to the Hearts of Oak fan base and the wider football fraternity.

“I thank all the supporters of Hearts of Oak and everyone,” he said. “It is incredible for a lovely gesture to be extended to someone like me.”

Head coach Aboubakar Ouattara, who has overseen Asare’s transformation into the club’s first-choice shot-stopper, praised the player’s discipline and urged him to remain grounded.

“I’ll tell Asare to utilise the car well,” Ouattara said. “He should bear in mind it was as a result of his abilities on the pitch that earned him this prize.”

Asare has kept an impressive 15 clean sheets in 24 league games this season, helping Hearts of Oak maintain one of the tightest defences in the Ghana Premier League. His performances have also earned him a starting spot in the Black Stars, where he kept back-to-back clean sheets in World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

The car gift serves as a symbol of public appreciation for local talent and has reignited conversations around player welfare and recognition in Ghana’s domestic football scene.
