Head coach Charles Sampson has applauded the determination and fighting spirit of the Black Princesses following their successful qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Ghana secured their place at the tournament after battling to a 1-1 draw against Uganda in Kampala, sealing a 3-2 aggregate victory after their first-leg success in Accra.

The decisive qualifier proved to be a difficult test for the Black Princesses, who fell behind early in the match before facing an additional challenge late on when they were reduced to ten players following a red card.

Despite the pressure, Ghana remained composed and eventually found the crucial equaliser through Linda Owusu Ansah, whose goal ultimately secured qualification.

The result means the Black Princesses will compete at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for the eighth consecutive time, extending Ghana’s impressive consistency in women’s youth football.

Speaking after the game, Sampson praised the mentality and commitment shown by his players under difficult circumstances.

“The girls showed a lot of character, a lot of resilience and willingness beyond the normal. I am so proud of them,” Sampson said after the game.

“This is one of the things that made me so impressed with how we qualified. This group has been tested in so many ways, and to still come out and qualify after the red card and being a goal down shows great resilience and character,” he added.

The tournament will be hosted in Poland later this year, with Ghana once again aiming to compete strongly on the global stage.
