Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has urged the Black Stars to remain grounded following their winning start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, warning that an even tougher challenge lies ahead against England.

The Black Stars secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama in their Group L opener, with Caleb Yirenkyi’s late strike earning Ghana all three points in Toronto and boosting their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

While the result has generated excitement among supporters, Semenyo insists the squad is focused on the task ahead and will not allow the victory to distract them from their ultimate objective.

Ghana’s next assignment comes against an England side that also opened their campaign in impressive fashion, defeating Croatia 4-2 to move level on points at the top of the group.

The meeting between the two nations on June 23 is widely expected to play a significant role in determining the outcome of Group L, with both teams eager to strengthen their position ahead of the final round of fixtures.

Speaking after the victory over Panama, Semenyo acknowledged the quality of the opposition but stressed that Ghana would approach the contest with confidence and discipline.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game.”

The Bournemouth attacker emphasized that the players are determined to stay focused despite their positive start to the tournament.

“We feel like we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves. We know we want to win that game. But we know it’s not going to be easy.”

Semenyo also highlighted the importance of proper preparation in the days leading up to the encounter, with recovery and training expected to be key priorities for the squad.

“So make sure we recover well. And make sure we train well leading up to that weekend.”

With momentum on their side after their opening victory, Ghana will be aiming to carry that confidence into the clash against England as Carlos Queiroz’s men seek another positive result in their quest to advance beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
