Black Stars defender Jerome Opoku has expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to compete with England, insisting the team possesses the quality needed to challenge the Three Lions in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L encounter.

The Black Stars head into the highly anticipated fixture on the back of a dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama, while England opened their campaign with an impressive 4-2 win against Croatia.

With both teams seeking to strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stage, the clash in Boston is expected to be one of the standout matches of the group phase.

Despite England’s wealth of talent and status as one of the tournament favourites, Opoku believes Ghana have enough quality within their squad to compete on equal terms.

“We recognize that England has talented players, but we also possess excellent qualities,” the defender said ahead of the showdown.

The centre-back has been a key figure in Ghana’s defensive setup and is expected to play an important role as Carlos Queiroz’s side attempt to contain England’s dangerous attacking threats.
