Ghanaian midfielder Salis Abdul Samed is on the verge of joining OGC Nice after the French club reached an agreement with RC Lens on Wednesday evening, August 13. The move will see the 25-year-old reunite with his former coach, Franck Haise, as he looks to reignite his career in Ligue 1.

Abdul Samed, who was under contract with Lens until 2028, will continue his journey in the French top flight after both clubs agreed on a transfer fee estimated between €2 million and €2.5 million, including bonuses. Nice, in search of midfield reinforcements, have identified the Ghanaian’s defensive qualities and experience as key assets for their squad.

The former Clermont Foot player is expected to arrive in Nice on Thursday, August 14, to undergo medical examinations before linking up with the team. Franck Haise, now in charge at Nice, is well-acquainted with Abdul Samed’s abilities, having coached him for two seasons at Lens. Under Haise’s guidance, the midfielder made 60 Ligue 1 appearances and was instrumental in helping the Artois side finish second in 2023.

After a more difficult 2023/24 campaign, which included a loan spell at English Championship side Sunderland, Abdul Samed was deemed surplus to requirements for Lens’ next phase. Despite interest from Turkish sides Basaksehir and Kayserispor for a potential loan deal, Nice moved swiftly to secure his permanent signing.

The Ghanaian’s arrival is expected to bolster Nice’s midfield options as they prepare for the upcoming Ligue 1 season.
