Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has emphasized that his team will not take anything for granted as they prepare to face Division One side Golden Kick in the final of the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup.

The highly anticipated final is set for Saturday, June 15, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon, Accra.

Kotoko booked their place in the final after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea in Tarkwa, with Zito guiding the Porcupine Warriors to their first FA Cup final since 2017.

Their opponents, Golden Kick, shocked many by defeating Attram De Visser 3-1 in the semifinal, setting up a David versus Goliath clash.

Despite Kotoko being overwhelming favourites, Zito has cautioned against any complacency.

“You can’t underrate any club until you get what you want,” he told reporters. “So I don’t care whether they are in Division One or not – I don’t care. I am going there for the cup, so whoever comes there [to the final], I am going to deal with it, I am going to fight it, I am going to make sure that I beat the team and then take the cup.”

The experienced coach is eyeing a domestic double, with Kotoko also in contention for the Ghana Premier League title. Zito, who only recently took over as head coach, has quickly instilled discipline and tactical flexibility into the squad.

Zito’s remarks send a clear signal that Kotoko will approach the final with full focus and determination as they aim to reclaim their place at the top of Ghanaian football.
