Giant’s Accra Hearts of Oak SC failed to break the jinx in Tamale whenever they face Real Tamale United in the Ghanaian top-flight. On Friday, the Phobians travelled to the Northern part of Ghana and returned with a defeat.

They lost 1-0, following Owusu Afriyie’s late header at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

In five games between Hearts of Oak, Real Tamale United are yet to lose a game winning four and drawing one in five meetings. With the host, stunning the Continental Club Masters head coach, Martin Koopman, has expressed his disappointment following on losing league opener.

However, commended Real Tamale United for their impressive performance during the match.

“Losing is always disappointing, but, firstly, it was an exciting game to watch. It was a hard-fought match. While we prefer to play football, when that’s not possible, we must fight.”

“In the first half, they had numerous chances, so we can’t deny that they deserved their victory. Their last-minute corner kick goal sealed the deal, and I believe they earned the win overall,” Koopman conveyed to StarTimes.

“Overall, I’m satisfied with the performance, and we’re looking forward to the next game. We need to make progress and work diligently with this young team. I have confidence in them, but it’s a bittersweet feeling for us,” he added.

Hearts of Oak will face Nsoatreman FC on matchday two in Accra as they aim to bounce back from their opening-day defeat.
