Assistant coach of the Ghana national football team, Roger De Sá, says the Black Stars have a genuine opportunity to progress beyond the group phase of the 2026 FIFA World Cup if the players perform to their full capabilities.

Ghana are preparing for their fifth appearance at football’s biggest tournament, which will be staged across United States, Canada and Mexico.

After suffering group-stage exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions, the Black Stars are aiming to make a deeper run this time around under the guidance of new head coach Carlos Queiroz.

Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, De Sá expressed confidence in the technical team and the quality within the Ghana squad.

“We are here to do our best and make Ghanaians happy. If Carlos does his job, there is none better than him,” the South African tactician said.

De Sá also stressed that qualification to the knockout stage will largely depend on whether the players can consistently deliver their best performances during the tournament.

“We will take our targets as they come. If our players play to their abilities, we have a realistic chance of progressing,” he added.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars are expected to intensify preparations in the coming weeks with international friendlies as they target a strong showing in North America.
