Police Arrest Two Suspects in Frimpong Murder Case After Chelsea Bus Attack
The Ghana Police Service has made a breakthrough in the investigation into the deadly armed robbery attack on Berekum Chelsea, confirming the arrest of two suspects linked to the incident that claimed the life of Dominic Frimpong.
According to police, the arrests follow an intensive manhunt launched after the horrifying attack on the Bibiani–Goaso road last Sunday night, shortly after the club returned from its Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex at DUN’s Park.
Reports indicate that armed men blocked the road and opened fire when the team bus attempted to reverse after sensing danger. In the ensuing panic, players and officials abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes for safety.
During the attack, Frimpong sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The 20-year-old forward was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was later pronounced dead, sending shockwaves through Ghanaian football.
In its latest update, the police disclosed that one of the suspects believed to be the gang leader, along with an accomplice, is now in custody. Authorities also revealed that one suspect suffered gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with intelligence operatives and is currently receiving treatment under police watch.
Frimpong, who was on loan from Aduana FC, had emerged as one of Chelsea’s brightest young talents this season, registering two goals in 13 league appearances before his tragic death.
The arrests are expected to provide some relief to the club and the wider football fraternity as investigations continue, with calls intensifying for stronger security measures for clubs traveling for domestic competitions.
