Ghana international Marvin Senaya has undergone successful surgery after sustaining a hamstring injury during the Black Stars’ FIFA World Cup Round of 32 defeat to Colombia, bringing an early end to an impressive tournament for the defender.

The 25-year-old right-back confirmed the successful operation in a post on social media, assuring fans he is focused on his recovery and determined to return to action stronger.

Senaya’s injury occurred just 13 minutes into Ghana’s knockout clash in Kansas City. The Auxerre defender pulled up while sprinting after a loose ball and, despite initially attempting to continue, was eventually forced to leave the pitch. Medical examinations later revealed a significant hamstring injury that required surgical intervention.

The setback ended what had been a memorable World Cup campaign for the defender, who featured in all four of Ghana’s matches. He completed every minute of the Black Stars’ group-stage fixtures and established himself as one of the side’s most reliable performers during the tournament.

Senaya played a key role in Ghana’s defensive solidity, helping the Black Stars record clean sheets against Panama and England as they progressed to the knockout rounds for the first time since 2010.

The injury is also a significant setback for French club Auxerre, where Senaya enjoyed a productive 2025/26 season. The full-back made 20 appearances across all competitions and contributed one goal, but he is now expected to miss the opening stages of the 2026/27 campaign while continuing his rehabilitation.

Although no timeline has been announced for his return, the successful surgery marks the first step in Senaya’s recovery as he works towards regaining full fitness for both club and country.
