‘It Looks Like a Farewell’ – Sannie Daara on Carlos Queiroz’s statement
Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara believes Carlos Queiroz’s time as Black Stars head coach may have come to an end, suggesting the Portuguese manager’s recent social media message strongly indicates he is preparing to leave the role.
Queiroz, who was appointed on a short-term contract in April to guide Ghana through the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hinted at his departure in a farewell-style post after the Black Stars were eliminated by Colombia in the Round of 32.
Although the Sports Ministry has stated it is yet to receive an official resignation letter from the Ghana Football Association, Sannie Daara believes the coach’s intentions are already clear.
“Carlos Queiroz’s Facebook post looks like a farewell message,” he told Channel One.
Beyond the uncertainty surrounding Queiroz’s future, the former GFA communications chief also questioned whether Ghana could realistically retain a coach of the Portuguese manager’s calibre because of the financial demands involved.
According to Sannie Daara, the cost of employing a high-profile international coach remains a major obstacle for Ghanaian football.
“I don’t think Ghana will be able to pay $150,000 or more as salary for the Black Stars coach,” he added.
His comments come as discussions continue over the future direction of the Black Stars following their World Cup campaign, which ended after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia despite Ghana reaching the knockout stage for the first time since 2010. T
he uncertainty surrounding Queiroz has fuelled debate over whether the GFA should pursue another experienced foreign coach or appoint a local manager to lead the team into the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
While no official decision has been announced, the Portuguese tactician’s future remains one of the biggest talking points in Ghanaian football. For now, the GFA is expected to assess the team’s World Cup performance before making a final decision on the next chapter for the Black Stars’ technical bench.
