Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has clarified the circumstances surrounding the dismissal of former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, insisting that the decision did not require prior approval from the President.

Speaking on Asempa FM, the Minister emphasized the autonomy of his office in handling matters related to national team management, stressing that his mandate includes taking key decisions in the best interest of Ghana football.

“I don’t need to inform the President (President of Ghana, John Mahama) before sacking coach Otto Addo. He knows we are capable of doing the job, that’s why he appointed us to this position,” Adams stated.

Otto Addo, who had been in charge during Ghana’s qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, was relieved of his duties after a series of underwhelming performances in international friendlies. He has been replaced by Carlos Queiroz who will lead the Stars to the mundial.

With a new technical team now in place, attention has shifted toward rebuilding momentum ahead of the World Cup, as Ghana aims to improve on its recent performances on the global stage.
